CST/delivery to Marketing to Store Manager – my journey “My journey started almost 4 years ago when my close friend Paige Johnson recommended me to apply at the Terre Haute American Rental store for a CST/Delivery position. I applied and was interviewed by my former boss and mentor Dave Sutherlin. He gave me the job! I worked very hard to excel and be the best delivery driver/CST that I could be. After being an efficient and hard-working delivery driver/CST for almost 2 years, the Marketing/Sales position at the store came open. I was up for the challenge so I talked to Dave and let him know I was interested. We talked about the details and the challenges I would face. After thinking it over, I decided to give it a try! I worked very closely with Paige, the previous Marketing/Sales rep. She taught me the basics of taking payments and building contracts for customers. I also had the privilege of working alongside Dave who taught me the guidelines of marketing and gave me the freedom and support I needed to try a few new marketing ventures, and became a successful marketing/sales rep. Recently, I stepped up to the challenge of being a Store Manager near where I live. I am going to do anything and everything I have to, to be successful. I am so thankful to Dave Sutherlin and to the American Rental Family for the opportunity to better myself and do the best that I can do for my family!!”

American Rental was a new career path I had chosen back in August of 2018. My starting position was being a Sales Manager which helped me build rapport with many of the customers. I’ve always believed in giving your customers an experience like they have known you for years. When a customer walks in my store I want them to feel like they are family and can tell me anything so I can do my best to fix it. When I was promoted to Store Manager in December of 2020, I was very happy to have finally gotten the position, and my customers were, too. I had abundance of new skills to learn. Luckily, I had our amazing Auditor Rick Scherer to help me and Paul Davis, another Store Manager, to lean on. Everyone within the company, Corporate and even other Store Managers were extremely helpful in explaining or walking me through anything I needed. This is one of the reasons I love working for this company. Everyone helps each other to make sure everyone is knowledgeable, happy, and proud. You can do anything within this company…as long as you have the heart, determination and work ethic, you will make it to wherever you want to go.”

Store Manager

I grew up in a poverty-stricken home in which I never knew where my next meal was coming from. At 17 years old, I started as a CST in our Columbus, Indiana store. With the opportunities that American Rental presented to me, I now run the biggest store in the company. Thanks to American Rental, I live with the dignity of being able to provide for my family. My son will be a student without a loan. American Rental has truly changed our family tree.
